Curriculum Development

I design educational resources for educators and caregivers. My resources are informed by critical pedagogy, and center social identity development, power and social justice.

Examples of past curriculum development include:

  • developing identity-based book club curriculum exploring different social identities (e.g. race, culture, gender, language), for Imagining More Just Futures x Harvard Graduate Commons Program for Pre-K through age 1;

  • developing a teaching tool called The Power Rainbow to support children in understanding power structurally;

  • developing curriculum for workshops related to LGBTQIA+ history, and using children's books to talk about power in settings like public libraries;

  • developing curriculum to support awareness around extreme heat for the Metropolitan Area Planning Council Cool Communications Program for elementary and high school aged students, and;

  • developing curriculum to support Youth Participatory Action Research projects with elementary, middle and high school students.

Program Development & Facilitation

I develop programs for children, youth and their adults. My programming focuses on social identity development, social justice and power, as well as in co-creating youth-led spaces.

I have expertise in:

  • children's & youth book collection development, with experience in hard-to-find languages;

  • exploring social justice and power with children and youth through camps, workshops and other programming;

  • intergenerational social justice activities including book clubs, workshops and other programming;

  • programming connected to environmental issues including climate justice.

Research & Evaluation

I have extensive experience with "traditional" qualitative research methods, Youth Participatory Action Research, and specialize in less "traditional" participatory and arts-based methods. I also have experience conducting mixed-methods program evaluations. Through research and evaluation projects I regularly work with a variety of stakeholder groups in academic, and non-academic settings.

Examples of past projects:

  • conducting a mixed-methods program evaluation of a youth leadership program;

  • conducting a qualitative study to understand gaps in service provision for a outh city services office;

  • conducting a qualitative study to understand how out-of-school-time educators of third to fifth graders support children in power analysis.

Art & Illustration

I create illustrations to support organizations in communicating messages with a variety of audiences.

Examples of past projects

  • creating booklets and curricular materials featuring illustrations and commissioned poems to help children learn about how to navigate extreme heat;

  • creating a fundraiser design for the Elakha Alliance working on sea otter conservation in Oregon;

  • creating art for Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest to raise awareness about their work.
